This is a scene at a Korean baseball stadium. It looks like there are many fans (with masks) seated at the stands. However, on closer look, you will realise that these are only banners with images of fans.
The match will be broadcasted to the real fans. Whether there will be recorded cheers so as to simulate the real setting is not clear. The question is – will this be the new normal for sporting activities? Hopefully not. But if it is, think about the implication on the business model for sports.
Broadcasters & telcos stand to gain. Venue Operators, F&B providers at these venues, entrance fees, etc. will be impacted. Whatever the new business model will be, this is definitely not what sports used to me. Food for thought….
