Daily CO2 emissions plunge during lockdown

It’s no surprise. We’ve seen black rivers turn green, air quality improve and various other environmental improvements eg. Fishes in rivers, etc.

The important question is – how can we sustain such improvements even as various economies start opening up? Daily CO2 emissions from various countries were recorded to have generally dropped more than 20%.

Each country will have to examine the causes of theirs figures and determine if the activities that contributed to the CO2 declines can commence operations once again without significantly increasing its CO2 emission. Most likely, this will be related to demand figures, unless a different approach to production activities is considered. The coronavirus pandemic has provided this opportunity for the world to reconsider its environmental responsibilities. Let’s hope everyone will take heed and not let these CO2 figures rise again.
