Singapore has a bigger health problem than just Covid-19. It is dengue. Unlike Covid-19 where you can isolate, lock-down, etc. mosquitoes are all over and hard to control. The more effective way is to get sterile male Andes mosquitoes to breed with the female ones so that their eggs do not hatch. How fast can this be propagated is the challenge facing the authorities.
With national dengue infections likely to hit the 1,000 mark per week, the country is racing against time to address this issue. It also doesn’t help that the hot season is here with occasional storms that leaves water puddles – the best way for mosquitoes to breed. Let’s hope this dengue issue can be addressed soon.
