New submarine cable to link South East Asia to North America

Data is transmitted across continents via undersea cables called submarine cables. Most submarine cables used to terminate in Taiwan before fanning out to South East Asia. Now, there is a new initiative to lay a submarine cable around the Borneo islands and directly across the Pacific Ocean to North America. This 15,000km long submarine cable is expected to be ready by 2024. It would provide greater capacity and improve Internet speeds.
